Stay Informed On All Things Deck
Hi, I’m Tyson Anderson, owner of Utah Deck Structures. Over the years, we’ve worked with hundreds of homeowners across Salt Lake County, and I’ve learned that the best projects start with clear communication.
Below, you’ll find answers to the questions we hear most often. My goal is to give you a better picture of what to expect so that you can make decisions with confidence.

What is your company’s experience with deck building?
We’ve completed over 300 deck projects in the last 5 years, from straightforward builds to complex, custom designs in the 16×20 to 20×20 range. Every project is built to handle Utah’s climate and to fit the way you live.
What factors influence the cost of a new deck?
Size, materials, and design choices all play a role. Composite decking tends to cost more upfront than wood but lasts longer and requires less maintenance.
Terrain prep, stairs, railings, and extras like lighting also affect pricing. We’ll walk you through each option so you can make the best choice for your budget and lifestyle.
What deck brands do you typically work with?
We work with TimberTech, Trex, and Fiberon, all proven brands with excellent warranties and a wide range of colors and finishes. We’ll help you compare options so you get the right mix of style, performance, and budget.
What is your process for deck repair projects?
Small fixes, like tightening loose railings, can usually be done within 1–2 weeks. But if the structure underneath is unsafe or failing, we’ll be honest and recommend a replacement. We’ll explain why, show you the issues, and help you decide what’s best for the long run.
What’s involved in a covered patio project?
Covered patios usually take 7–8 days to build because we integrate them into your home’s structure. This involves tying into the roof and adding finishing touches like soffits and lighting. Pricing typically ranges from $30,000–$50,000, depending on size and features.
How quickly can you build a basic deck?
For a standard 12×12 deck, our crew can usually have it ready in about 3 days. We keep things efficient without rushing, so you get a deck that’s safe, solid, and ready to enjoy.
Do you offer any kind of warranty on your deck work?
Yes. Every project comes with a 1-year labor warranty from us, plus most of our materials have 30- to 50-year manufacturer warranties. That means if something isn’t right, we’ll make it right, and your materials are covered for decades.
How does your team handle communication and customer service?
We believe you should never have to wonder what’s happening on your own project. We’ll keep you updated from start to finish, let you know if anything changes, and check in after we’re done to make sure you’re happy.
Can you build custom pergolas?
Yes, we love building custom pergolas that match your home and give you the look and function you want. Most pergola projects take 3–5 days, depending on size and design.
Do you offer any financing options for your services?
Not yet, but it’s something we’re planning to add in the future. In the meantime, we can work with you to phase your project or suggest design adjustments that fit your budget without compromising quality.
